A four-country quest that dares to ask:

Is romance on the verge of extinction?

ABOUT THE FILM

Through a collection of explorative scenarios, unique scenery and various interviews, this feature documentary “La Forma dell’Amore” (The Shape of Love) will focus on four different countries; Italy, Corsica, Ireland and the oldest capital city in the USA, Santa Fe, NM. To find out how their architecture, relationship to the land, art, history, present day stories, social conditioning and collective traumas have shaped how romantic love is perceived.

Does love have a shape? If so, what would it look like? What would be the key ingredients? What feeds a truly romantic life? This is a film that starts out with more questions than answers, not unlike how new, potentially enriching connections start out, not knowing where it will lead.

In a world where the word “love” seems to be overused or misused, I wanted to set out to make the word strong and mysterious again - to put it back on its rightful pedestal. This film will set out to see if we can stop being a prisoner of our own conditioning. To free ourselves from the  rigid expectations that confine romantic love to a small space or box which undermines our true experience and transcendence.

We will take a look at how social media has impacted our real in-person connections, and if we’ve stopped connecting to each other, on a deeper level in this sometimes dominating, desensitizing, digital world. It seems the idea of romantic love has changed throughout time. Is it due to some sort of quantum shifting or is our pre-occupation with aesthetics and wellness, forcing our curiosity, unabashed behavior and playfulness to take a backseat, in a prudish fashion.

If we are living through the last days of our collective love stories, it would seem beneficial to start to live them in a more substantial way. Similar to making sure the Bees don’t suffer through their extinction.

So come, help us set the stage, for this film by first walking parallel with the ghosts, gods and goddesses of Rome, that will ignite a quest onward throughout Italy, then on to three more countries in contrast … to explore the answers to these questions.

ARTISTIC APPROACH

La Forma dell’Amore (The Shape of Love) will be narration driven and interview-led documentary. In my films I set out with a very organic approach, letting what is captured spontaneously, for the most part, guide the story along. So as the story evolves, there is a more genuine feel, not a rehearsed one. And combining cinéma vérité with a rich cinematic aesthetic will give the film an intimate style of storytelling, through the collaborative energy brought together with a talented team. It will be an ambitious and powerful documentary, we think that has the potential to inspire audiences around the globe. This first trailer, is comprised mostly of B-Roll footage from some locations in Italy and Santa Fe - shot over a period of 3 years, when time and private funds permitted - but we still need principal photography from all four-counties.
